Edward Pursino (born January 3, 1963 in New York , NY , USA ) is an American guitarist .

He is a member of the New York heavy metal band Virgin Steele and partner of bandleader and singer David DeFeis (with whom he also went to school). He learned to play the guitar at the age of 7 and won several competitions in later years, where he particularly shone with interpretations of well-known pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach . In his youth he discovered his interest in rock music and heavy metal in addition to classical music . In 1983 , at the request of David DeFeis, he replaced the previous guitarist (and band co-founder) of Virgin Steele, Jack Starr , who had left the band after lengthy conflicts with DeFeis.

Pursino comes from a musical family. His brother plays the drums in a popular New York metal band called " Rotgut " and his father, a trained carpenter and restorer, restores guitars in his spare time. Edward Pursino received lessons from, among others, Sal Nicosa , who is considered the great guitarist in music circles and who in turn was a student of the Brazilian guitar legend Laurindo Almeida .

Edward Pursino's guitar playing is extremely virtuoso and versatile and harmonizes very well with the voice of David DeFeis. Connoisseurs consider Pursino to be one of the most underrated guitarists in rock history.

Edward Pursino lives in Long Island , New York.
