Isaac Oliver

Isaak Oliver , also: Isaac Olivier (* around 1560 in Rouen , † October 2, 1617 in London ) was an English miniature painter .

Life

Oliver came from a French Huguenot family , came to England as a child and was a student of Nicholas Hilliard (1547-1619). He later became its main competitor. Oliver is famous for the techniques he developed in the field of miniature painting. He used this technique to paint portraits (including Elizabeth I , Jacob I and Anna of Denmark ) and historical scenes.

After the death of his first wife Elisabeth († 1599), he married Sara in 1602, daughter of the painter Marcus Gerards the Elder (1516-1604) and his wife Susannah de Critz. As well as niece of the miniature painter John de Critz. The first marriage resulted in a son: Peter Oliver.
