Isabel Mühlfenzl

Isabel Mühlfenzl (born August 12, 1927 in Frontenhausen , born Isabel Paintner , at times Isabel Schneider , real first name Isabella ) is a German journalist and television presenter who has reported on the economy for Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) for many years and is head of the BR's business department -Television was. At the beginning of her job, she was the first woman in the BR's business department.

Life

Mühlfenzl was born in Lower Bavaria , her father was a doctor. Her father wanted her to become a teacher. In her early twenties she married her first husband while studying, but she soon separated from him. During her studies she also switched to business administration, in 1959 she received her doctorate with a thesis on The Entflechtung der Eisen- und Stahlindustrie and its tax effects at the Nuremberg University of Economics and Social Sciences . She then completed a tax advisor training and applied to an auditing firm in Munich. By chance she met a former student colleague in Munich in the summer of 1960 who worked as a journalist for BR-Wirtschaftsfunk, and who introduced her to the BR as a "colleague". From 1961 she was a permanent editor at the BR Wirtschaftsfunk, in this position she was the first woman in the editorial office. At first she was not allowed to speak her own contributions because a “female voice for business matters” was not appropriate. In 1964 she married her then boss Rudolf Mühlfenzl , who later became editor-in-chief of BR television, and took the name Mühlfenzl. Until 1970 she wrote numerous articles on economic topics for radio and television. In 1970 she switched entirely to television and moderated, among others, the “Telekolleg Volkswirtschaft”, Plusminus , “ABC der Wirtschaft”, “Profiles” and “Blickpunkt Wirtschaft”. At the end of the 1980s, she became the head of the business editorial department of BR television, against the resistance of the then BR television director Helmut Oeller . From 1970 she was teaching at universities in Great Britain and the USA.

Family and trivia

In 1966 their daughter Caroline was born. In 2015 she and her daughter acquired the old station building in Seefeld-Hechendorf, which was then extensively renovated. The station opened at the beginning of 2018, with renovation costs unexpectedly increasing to up to 1.6 million euros. Mühlfenzl is a member of the Ludwig Erhard Foundation . She lives in Seefeld (Upper Bavaria) .
