Rudolf Mühlfenzl

Rudolf Heribert Mühlfenzl (born November 30, 1919 in Munich ; † January 16, 2000 there ) was a German television journalist , media manager and radio representative .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1937, Mühlfenzl did military and military service . After the war he studied history , economics and newspaper studies in Munich . Then he was briefly managing director and dramaturge of the New Munich Theater .

From 1948 he was head of business radio at Bayrischer Rundfunk (BR), from 1961 head of the newly formed economy in radio and television and from 1964 head of the department for economic and social policy . He also worked under the pseudonym Rufus Mücke as a radio commentator, who often broadcast satirical contributions.

From April 1969 he was TV chief editor of the BR. In this function, he, who joined the CSU in 1965 , was often accused of making program decisions based on party-political criteria.

In March 1983 he finished his work at BR and became director of the Munich pilot company for cable communication , which started operations in the spring of 1984.

In January 1986 he was appointed President of the Bavarian State Center for New Media (BLM). After his retirement, he signed a consultancy contract with the regional headquarters.

On October 15, 1990, Mühlfenzl was elected radio commissioner for the new federal states (according to Article 36 of the German Unification Treaty ). In this function, he handled the German television broadcasting and radio broadcasting stations in the GDR . His activity was controversial among the population of the accession area: Mühlfenzl was perceived as the person who also switched off popular channels and programs. It was reported that all radio and television employees received dismissal letters without notice without any explanation. He described the founding of Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) as his greatest success in this position .

Mühlfenzl was married to the actress Camilla Horn for the first time . The marriage ended in divorce. His second wife was the business journalist Isabel Mühlfenzl , with her he had a daughter.

Mühlfenzl died as a result of pneumonia . He was buried in the old part of the forest cemetery in Munich in grave no. 36-W-11.
