The Isabelle Heusler GmbH & Co. KG is a German company with headquarters in central Hesse Dillenburg , which comes from a 1482 copper smelter founded. Today, the company is one of the world's leading manufacturers of low-resistance precision and power resistors, of sensor modules for the automotive, electrical and electronics industries, as well as of resistance and thermal alloys.

history

Isabellenhütte Heusler

Isabellenhütte Heusler is the oldest industrial company in Hesse. As early as the late Middle Ages, a copper smelter was founded at the current location in Dillenburg, which was first mentioned in 1482 as the "Kupferhütte auf der Nanzenbach".

In 1728 the hut was renamed "Isabelle Kupferhütte" after Isabella , the wife of the last ruling sovereign Prince Christian (Nassau-Dillenburg) . In 1827 the Heusler family acquired the company, which they have been running as a family business ever since; The secret mountain ridge and headmaster of the Bergschule Siegen , Carl Ludwig Heusler , ran the company until his death in 1851. After his death, the company was continued by his sons Friedrich Wilhelm Otto Heusler (1825–1890) as operations manager and Conrad Heusler as his advisor . The Isabellenhütte started producing nickel silver under the leadership of the two brothers and continued to expand copper production.

In 1889 the company developed the alloy Manganin together with the Physikalisch Technische Reichsanstalt (PTR) . Today this forms the basis for the entire range of precision and power resistors. In 1898, Conrad Heusler, who at that time managed the hut from Bonn, founded the company "Isabellenhütte GmbH".

In 1901, the then director Fritz Heusler (born February 1, 1866 Bonn, † October 25, 1947 Dillenburg) discovered the Heusler alloys that were later named after him . These alloys made of non-ferrous metals, for example made of different types of bronze, had ferromagnetic properties, similar to iron, cobalt or nickel. In cooperation with the Philipps University of Marburg , this physical phenomenon was investigated on manganese arsenide and published in 1933 by Otto Heusler, a son of the discoverer. The support of the university was continued beyond the funding of research work through the establishment of the "Heusler Foundation".

Over the years, the company has been modernized and expanded with new work steps. In 1952 a wire drawing shop, an insulation plant in 1960 and a hot rolling mill in 1980 were built and integrated into the manufacturing process. As a result, the company increasingly shifted its activities to the area of low-ohm precision and power resistors as well as resistance and thermal alloys.

Today the company operates worldwide and exports over 60% of its products abroad.

The company's quality management system is certified according to the standards DIN EN ISO 9001: 2008, DIN EN ISO 14001: 2009, DIN EN ISO 50001: 2009 and ISO TS 16949: 2009. Isabellenhütte is certified in accordance with the ESCC system of the European Space Agency (ESA) and is therefore approved as a “Qualified Supplier” for space applications of resistors.

In 2013, the Isabellenhütte was recognized by the Institute for Leadership and Personnel Management at the University of St. Gallen as one of the best employers in medium-sized companies.

Other well-known brands of the company are Isabellin and Isaohm .

Divisions

measuring technology

Isabellenhütte is one of the world's leading providers of modern measurement systems. With the specially developed 4-channel measuring system ISA-ASIC, Isabellenhütte was the first company in the world in 2002 that was able to carry out high-precision measurement of current, voltage and temperature in automotive battery management.

Precision and power resistors

Isabellenhütte produces precision and power resistors in the low-ohm range and for a wide variety of applications. Among other things, the products are used in the automotive industry, for example in engine control, in injection systems, driver assistance and energy management systems, but also in industrial and power electronics, telecommunications and medical technology. The company's precision and power resistors meet the RoHS guidelines and AEC-Q200 specifications, and some are also qualified for use in space.

Resistance and thermal alloys

Isabellenhütte produces resistance and thermal alloys in semi-finished form according to international standards. These are mainly used in the manufacture of temperature sensors, mineral-insulated thermocouples and immersion measuring heads. Resistance and thermal alloys are usually supplied in the form of wires, enameled wires, sheet metal, stranded wires, strips, flat wires, tubes, rods or foils.

The Isabellenhütte logo

The Isabellenhütte logo bears the characters "J734" in the four corners, which stands for the year 1734, which is not the year it was founded in 1728. Originally it comes from a gate decoration that is reminiscent of a vitriol boiler located next to the copper smelter . In the middle of the sign are the initials “ICF z. N. “by Isabella Charlotte Princess of Nassau .
