Isatou Touray (football referee)

Isatou Touray (born 1986 in Banjul ) is a Gambian football referee .

Life

Isatou Touray is from Balangar in the Lower Saloum district . She took an early interest in football and played on her school team and local clubs.

She was married to Sainey Jammeh (died 2011), the long-time Gambian football official and head of the committee for women's football at the Gambian Football Association .

In 2011 she began training as a referee and in 2013 her first assignment as a referee or assistant. Touray reported sexism and stereotypical ideas that made it difficult for her to become a referee. Her family also initially met with rejection. In 2019, she was still rejected.

She has been a FIFA referee since 2015 . In early 2018 she was named Referee of the Year 2017 at the National Sports Awards of the Sports Journalists' Association of The Gambia (SJAG). In July / August 2019 she took part in the Discover Football Fair Play event in Berlin.

Around 2019 she worked as Assistant Superintendent (ASI) at the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) in Bakau .

Missions (selection)

May 15, 2015: Qualifier for the 2015 Women's U-20 African Cup of Nations between Burkina Faso and Djibouti (first match).

March 12, 2016: Qualifier for the 2016 U-17 Women's World Cup between Nigeria and South Africa.

June 8, 2018: Qualifier for the 2018 Africa Cup of Women between Algeria and Ethiopia.
