traffic

On October 31, 2006, a bridge over the Punj between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, financed by the Aga Khan Foundation , was inaugurated. Karim Aga Khan IV and Emomalij Rahmon , the Tajik President, were present at the opening ceremony. The project, which is supported by the governments of Tajikistan and Afghanistan, aims to strengthen exchanges between the two countries. The cost of the project amounted, according to the Tajik Ministry of Transport to 350,000 US $ .

market

If the circumstances allow it, every Saturday there is a market on an island in the Punj, where Afghans and Tajiks exchange their goods. Due to its location on the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, the market can be reached from both sides without any major formalities. Mainly food and handicraft products are sold on the market, but meanwhile also imported goods from the People's Republic of China , as well as relief goods of the World Food Program of the United Nations . Some adventure tourists also visit the market.
