The Mirsk – Świeradów-Zdrój railway was a standard-gauge branch line in the Silesian Jizera Mountains , which was originally built and operated by Friedeberg-Flinsberger Kleinbahn AG . It ran from Mirsk ( Friedeberg am Queis ) to Świeradów-Zdrój ( Bad Flinsberg ).

history

The Isergebirgsbahn was founded as Friedeberg-Flinsberger Kleinbahn AG on February 1, 1908, and was later renamed Isergebirgsbahn AG from June 19, 1911 . The capital was raised by the Prussian state, the district of Löwenberg , the city of Friedeberg am Queis , the municipality of Bad Flinsberg as well as two private individuals and the Eisenbahnbau-Gesellschaft Becker & Co GmbH , which also ran the company.

From October 31, 1909, the standard-gauge route led from Friedeberg southwards in Queistal up into the Silesian part of the Jizera Mountains , which adjoins the Giant Mountains to the west , and ended after 7.7 km, initially in Bad Flinsberg, a steel bath and climatic health resort . On July 29th, the extension of the railway by 3 km to the Forst Flinsberg station was opened - mainly for wood removal, but then also for excursion traffic; passenger traffic had already started on July 5th.

The focus was on passenger traffic, in 1913/14 121,755 passengers were carried. Individual trains led through cars to Greiffenberg , where there was a connection to the Silesian Mountain Railway.

The freight traffic of 28,851 t was mainly used to transport wood.

In 1939, the majority of passenger traffic was handled by railcars, ten pairs of trains ran daily. They carried 149,527 passengers and 23,864 t of goods were carried in freight traffic.

In 1935, management was transferred to the AG für Energiewirtschaft , which was the sole company of the railway construction company Becker & Co GmbH, which had been operating until then.

In 1945 the railway was transferred to the Polish State Railways PKP. There were only three to four passenger trains a day, and passenger traffic between Świeradów-Zdrój (Bad Flinsberg) and Świeradów Nadleśnictwo (Flinsberg Forest) was abandoned. Freight traffic was stopped on December 15, 1995, and passenger trains ran until February 12, 1996. The line has been closed since 2000.

The Lower Silesian Voivodeship is planning to reactivate the route for tourist traffic.

Vehicle use

When it opened, there were two three-axle wet steam tender locomotives from Orenstein & Koppel . In 1930 they were replaced by two former cogwheel locomotives of the Prussian type T 26 .

In order to make passenger transport more profitable, railcars were used in the early 1930s. The first WUMAG railcar could not convince and was returned. A second railcar was delivered by the same manufacturer in 1935. In 1939 another larger railcar was procured from this manufacturer.

In addition, six passenger cars, a baggage car with a mail compartment and six freight cars were used.
