Stavros Mentzos

Stavros Mentzos ( Greek Σταύρος Μέντζος ; born March 23, 1930 in Athens ; † May 16, 2015 in Bad Soden ) was a Greek - German psychiatrist and psychoanalyst .

Live and act

Stavros Mentzos studied medicine in his hometown . From 1957 he worked at the Psychiatric University Clinic in Hamburg , where he received his doctorate in 1960 and became a specialist in neurology and psychiatry in 1964 . In 1967 he completed his habilitation and became the first senior physician at the Psychiatric University Clinic in Frankfurt am Main . He completed a psychoanalytic training in 1969. In 1971 he was appointed university professor at the University of Frankfurt am Main and took over the management of the newly established department for psychotherapy and psychosomatics at the psychiatric university clinic. In 1995 he retired .

His main focus was on neuroses , the dynamics and therapy of psychoses and personality disorders , the classification of personality disorders and psychosocial issues. Mentzos was editor of the series of publications Forum der Psychoanalytischen Psychosentherapie and author of several specialist books.

Mentzos was married and had one son.
