Isidor Gewitsch
Isidor Franz Gewitsch ( February 18, 1863 in Vienna - 1938 in Haifa ) was an Austrian stock trader and early promoter of the Zionist movement in Vienna.
Life
He was the son of Jacob Gewitsch and Rosalie geb. Friedlander. Isidor Gewitsch grew up with four siblings in Vienna. The ancestors of the Jewish family probably came from the East Bohemian town of Jevíčko with the German name Gewitsch .
On November 25, 1902, he announced his resignation as a Zionist religious director because of election manipulation.
In 1934 Isidor Gewitsch emigrated to Palestine .
Isidor Gewitsch was born with Helene. Friedländer (born March 26, 1870 in Vienna; died 1956 in Haifa). The children of this marriage were: Emanuel (November 30, 1890–1974), Friedrich (January 25, 1895–1914 killed in the war), Robert Franz (November 3, 1896– June 11, 1984).
The oil painting with a portrait of Isidor Gewitsch, painted around 1900 by Isidor Kaufmann , hangs in the Jewish Museum in New York City .
