Islamic Council in Germany

The Islamic Council in Germany (IK) was founded in 1989 as the German Islamic umbrella organization and was a member of the Islamic World League led by Saudi Arabia .

One of the founding members of the IK was the “Association of the New World View in Europe”. V. ”( AMGT ) as the predecessor of the“ Islamic Community Millî Görüş e. V. "(IGMG), the" Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe "(FIOE), the" Islamic Community in Germany eV "(IGD) and the" Muslim Student Association in Germany eV "(MSV). Further members were the “ Union of Turkish-Islamic Cultural Associations in Europe ” (ATIB), the “ Union of Islamic-Albanian Centers in Germany ” (UIAZD), the “Association of Bengali Cultural Centers ” and the “Association of Indonesian Muslims in Germany “As well as the Islamic Center Frankfurt. Only Sunni groups are said to have belonged to the council. The organization was based in Frankfurt am Main.

Abdallah Al-Turki, the dean of the "Bin Saud University" in Riyadh and later General Secretary of the "Islamic World League", took over the presidency and was later replaced by Salah El-Din El-Gafrawi (FIOE). Other top positions were held by Ibrahim El-Zayat (General Secretary, MSV), Hassan Özdögan (Vice President, Milli Görüs), Ahmed Kajusevic (Financial Advisor, Islamic Center Frankfurt) and Ahmad Al-Khalifa (Advisor for interreligious dialogue , Islamic Center Munich ).

Areas of activity of the Islamic Council included support in the creation of Islamic cultural centers and mosques, support in the establishment of their own Islamic print media, assistance in integration, initiation and coordination of relief operations in the event of natural disasters and in war and emergency areas, especially in Bosnia-Herzegovina , and also promoting interreligious dialogue .

From the year 2000 (as of 2003) the Federal Government has no longer identified any activities of the IK.
