The Islote Atalaya (Spanish for "viewing island "; in Chile Islote Cholin ) is a 175 m long island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the group of the Melchior Islands , it is 175 m east of the eastern foothills of the Eta Island .
Argentine scientists mapped it and named it in 1947. It is named after the special view of the coast of the neighboring Brabant island from here . Chilean scientists, however, named them after Antonio Colin Paredes, a crew member of the Yelcho in the rescue of the endurance expedition (1914-1917) of the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton who were stranded on Elephant Island in 1916 .
