Israel Airports Authority
The Israel Airports Authority (short: IAA ) (Hebrew: רשות שדות התעופה בישראל) is a state authority and at the same time an operating company that operates, manages and controls civil airports and border clearance points in Israel . The agency's headquarters are located on the premises of Ben Gurion International Airport .
history
The company was founded in 1977 as a public corporation under Act 5737–1977. The law defines the structure and functions. The IAA is responsible for all major civil airfields in Israel and the border crossings between Israel and its neighboring countries Lebanon , Syria and Jordan .
The Chairman and President of the IAA Board of Directors and its 15 members are appointed for a four-year term by the Minister of Transport with the approval of the government. The former Deputy Minister of Defense, Owadia Eli (* 1945), has been President of the IAA since 2006 . In 2011 his term of office was extended for a further term.
