Owadia Eli

Owadia Eli ( Hebrew עובדיה עלי, Born May 22, 1945 in Chanaqin , Kingdom of Iraq ) is a former Israeli politician .

Life

Eli immigrated to Israel in 1950 and attended the Lifschitz Seminar for Education . He studied Bible and Educational Counseling and earned a bachelor's degree from Haifa University . After he left the Knesset , he was appointed Managing Director of Oil Refineries by then Minister for National Infrastructure , Ariel Sharon .

In April 2005 he was appointed General Manager of Israel Military Industries by Defense Minister Scha'ul Mofas , but left this position in June 2006. In October 2006 he was appointed General Manager of Israel Airports Authority .

He was a board member of the Jewish Agency for Israel .

Politician

Eli was in the 11th to the 13th legislative period from August 13, 1984 to June 17, 1996 a member of the Knesset and from July 8, 1991 to July 13, 1992 in the 12th legislative period and 24th government cabinet deputy defense minister . He was also mayor of Afula from 1978 to 1991 .
