Israel Daniel Rupp

Israel Daniel Rupp (often I. Daniel Rupp, born July 10, 1803 in East Pennsboro (later Hampden ), Cumberland County , Pennsylvania , † May 31, 1878 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania) was an American writer. During and alongside his work as a bookseller, editor, historian, insurance agent, teacher, and translator, he edited more than two dozen monographs, including extensive articles on the history of Pennsylvania and the United States.

Life

Rupp was born into a farming family. His grandfather Jonas Rupp emigrated to Pennsylvania from ranks near Sinsheim in 1751 ; his parents were Georg Rupp and Christina Boeshor. After a life-threatening illness, he wanted to become a doctor and trained as an autodidact in historical and literary subjects and was later able to work as a teacher and translator. In 1827 he married Caroline Aristide, with whom he celebrated their golden wedding in 1877 . His career path took him to Harrisburg in 1827 . In Pennsylvania he supported John Quincy Adams' presidential candidacy in 1828 . Before 1830 he moved to Montgomery in Ohio , then before 1833 to Silver Spring in Pennsylvania, from there to Lancaster around 1842 , before 1860 on to Jonestown and finally in 1860 to Philadelphia, where he lived until his death.
