Israel Finkelscherer

Israel Finkelscherer ( June 20, 1866 in Brody , Ukraine - October 6, 1942 in the Theresienstadt ghetto ) was a German rabbi in Munich .

Life

Israel Finkelscherer was the son of the teacher Chaim Finkelscherer and his wife Sara nee. Deligdish. He studied from 1887 to 1893 at the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau . In 1893/94 he studied at the University of Jena and received his doctorate there . The title of his dissertation was Moses Maimuni's position on superstition and mysticism . From 1890 to 1898 Finkelscherer helped out as a teacher at the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau. On July 1, 1898, he was employed by the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Munich as a rabbinical deputy and religion teacher at the humanistic grammar schools in Munich, at the municipal secondary school for girls and at the adult education center.

In 1902, Israel Finkelscherer married Bella Lewy (1875-1943) from Berlin, a daughter of his teacher Israel Lewy (1841-1917). The two sons Herbert (1903–1942) and Bruno (1906–1943), who also became rabbis, came from this marriage.

Israel and Bella Finkel Scherer was on 25 June 1942 from Munich in the Theresienstadt ghetto deported where they 1942 and 1943 died. Her two sons as well as Herbert's wife, Flora Finkelscherer geb. Mayer (1902–1942) were also murdered.
