Israel Katz (politician, 1927)

Israel Katz ( Hebrew ישראל כץ; born December 6, 1927 in Vienna ; died October 29, 2010 in Jerusalem ) was an Austrian- Israeli politician.

Life

Katz emigrated to Palestine in 1937 . He studied social work at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and at Columbia University .

Katz exercised various functions in social work and teaching. From 1962 to 1968, he was the first Israeli dean of the Paul Baerwald School of Social Work and Social Welfare and from 1968 to 1973 he headed the National Insurance Institute.

Although he was never a member of the Knesset , he became Minister of Labor and Social Affairs under Menachem Begin between 1977 and 1981.

Katz was born with Marsel Katz. Ruso married and had two sons.
