Israel Nash Gripka (* 1981 in Aurora , Missouri ) is an American indie rock musician . Since 2013 he shortened his name to Israel Nash .

Career

Nash is from Aurora, Missouri. At the age of 9 he received piano lessons, but soon switched to the electric guitar. At 13 he had an alternative rock band called Skirmish . Nash moved to New York in 2006 and performed in various clubs on the Lower East Side , such as The Living Room and Rockwood Music Hall . He recorded his 2009 debut album New York Town in the Magic Shop Studio in New York. Ultimately, the album was released in Europe by the Dutch label Continental Records Services .

His second album Barn Doors and Concrete Floors was recorded on a farm outside New York in the summer of 2010. Steve Shelley ( Sonic Youth ) co-produced and played drums on all tracks. Nash recruited the rest of his studio band from his circle of friends: Joey McClellan (Midlake, The Fieros) on lead guitar, Aaron McClellan (The Fieros) on bass and Eric Swanson on bass, mandolin and banjo. An extensive European tour followed.

Nash left New York in late 2011 and moved to Dripping Springs not far from Austin , Texas . In the summer of 2012, he recorded his third album, Israel Nash's Rain Plans, in his studio in his home outside Dripping Springs. Ted Young was the producer. The band consisted of the musicians who had accompanied him on the Barn Doors Tour, in particular Josh Fleischmann (drums), Joey (guitar) and Aaron McClellan (bass) as well as Eric Swanson ( PSG ). Released on the London label Loose Music on September 30, 2013, the album was positively received in Europe.

In 2014, Rain Plans was released in the US on the Nashville- based label Thirty Tigers . In a short time it was played by National Public Radio (NPR) and various non-commercial radio stations such as KEXP in Seattle, WXPN in Philadelphia , KUTX in Austin or The Current in Minneapolis-Saint Paul .

In 2015, Israel Nash's Silver Season was his fourth studio album.
