Israel Victor Welch

Israel Victor Welch (born January 20, 1822 in Old St. Stephens , Alabama , † May 18, 1869 ) worked as a politician for both the United States and the Confederate States . He settled in Mississippi . In 1858 he sat there in the House of Representatives . In 1861 he took part as a delegate to the Mississippi Secession Convention, where he voted for his state's secession. In November 1861 he was elected to the First Confederate Congress for the third constituency of Mississippi , where he took up his post on February 18, 1862. He ran successfully for the second Confederate Congress and was then active there until 1865. He also served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War . He died about four years after the end of the war and was then in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Macon ( Noxubee County buried).
