Istalif or Estalef ( Persian استالف) is a northern district (government district) of the province of Kabul in Afghanistan .
It is named after the capital, Istalif, in the southeast of the district . The Istalif district borders in the north on the province of Parwan in the east on the district Qara Bagh and in the south on the district Guldara .
The district had 29,800 inhabitants in 2002. The inhabitants are mainly Tajiks , followed by Pashtuns and Hazara .
