István Jakab

István Jakab (born September 29, 1928 in Veľké Raškovce ; † November 23, 2013 in Komárno ) was a Hungarian-speaking Slovak hungarian scientist and university professor .

Life

After attending middle school, he graduated from the Reformed High School in Sárospatak in 1949 . He then studied at the Pedagogical University in Bratislava and finished his studies with the exam as a teacher. From 1955 to 1956 he worked as a writer in the field of culture for the Hungarian-language Slovak newspaper Új Szó . From 1956 he was a teacher and from 1957 to 1961 director of the secondary school in Veľký Meder . From 1961 to 1993 he worked as a lecturer in Hungarian language and literature at the Comenius University in Bratislava . In 1992 and 1993 he also headed this department. Between 1990 and 1998 he was President of the Slovak Society for Hungarian Mother Tongues, and since 2000 a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences . Jakab has received several awards for his work.
