Parque Estadual de Itapuã , German State Park Itapuã , denotes a nature reserve in Brazil . It was established on July 14, 1973 in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in the south of the country. Here, on 55.665 km² in the area of the city of Viamão, the rest of the original ecosystems of the greater Porto Alegre area are protected. The park is located between 30º20 'and 30º27' south and between 50º50 'and 51º05' west, about 50 km south of Porto Alegre on the banks of the sea-like Rio Guaíba and the Lagoa dos Patos . A lighthouse built in 1860 marks the estuary.
Historically significant in the Farroupilha Revolution were the Ilha do Junco and the Ferraria dos Farrapos .
Orchids , bromeliads and cacti, fig trees , Jerivá palms and cattleyas grow between granite hills , dunes and lagoons such as the Lagoa Negra (17.5 km²) . In addition to native and migratory birds, howler monkeys , otters and large- snouted caimans also live in the park .
The park and especially the beaches are open during the day, but the number of visitors is limited due to the large number of visitors. Hiking trails may only be used in guided groups.
