Farroupilha is a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil . It is located about 110 km north of Porto Alegre . The towns of Caxias do Sul , Bento Gonçalves , Garibaldi , Alto Feliz , Nova Pádua , Carlos Barbosa and Nova Roma do Sul are neighboring . Originally Farroupilha was part of the municipalities of Bento Gonçalves, Caxias do Sul and Montenegro .
The city was mainly shaped by Italian immigration.
