José Carlos De Nardi , (born January 6, 1944 in Farroupilha ) is a general and chief of staff of the Brazilian armed forces .

Military career

De Nardi entered the military on March 1, 1961. He graduated from the military academy for officer candidates of the artillery in Agulhas Negras near Resende , which he successfully completed in 1967. He studied economics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS-RG) and obtained his bachelor's degree in 1973 . This was followed by a course to become an artillery officer, where he completed his master's degree in military applications in 1977 . In 1982 he became a doctor of military science .

From 1984 to 1985 he was a general staff officer of the 8th Motorized Infantry Brigade in Pelotas . Then until 1987 instructor at the officers' school in Rio de Janeiro. From 1988 to 1990 it was used in the Ministry of Defense. From 1991 to 1992 he was Colonel (Coronel) in command of the 3rd Air Defense Artillery Group in Caxias do Sul . From 1994 to 1995 he was a military attaché at the Embassy of Brazil in Santiago de Chile in Chile and was then deployed again to the Ministry of Defense until 1996. On March 31, 1998, he was promoted to brigadier general and until 1999 took over command of the artillery units of the 6th Army Division in Porto Alegre . In 2000 he became Deputy Head of Logistics in the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense. On July 31, 2002, he became a division general (General-de-divisão) and worked in the Ministry of Defense until 2005. This was followed by the takeover of command of the 6th Army Division until 2006. On November 25, 2006 he was promoted to Army General (General-de-Exército) and took over from 2006 to 2007 as Commander of the Military Command West in Campo Grande . From November 29, 2008 to April 29, 2010 he was Commander of the Military Command South in Porto Alegre.

On September 6, 2010, De Nardi was appointed by Defense Minister Nelson Jobim as the first chief of staff of the newly established Armed Forces Staff (Estado Maior Conjunto das Forças Armadas; EMCFA) on August 25, 2010 by Law No. 136. In January 2014 he was reappointed Chief of Staff.
