Itauguá is a city and district in the Central Department in Paraguay 30km from Asuncion removed. It has 106,200 inhabitants. It is called the capital of Ñanduti .

history

Itauguá was founded on June 27, 1728 by Governor Martín de Barúa Picazza under the name Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Itauguá . Before the official founding of the town, there were indigenous people in simple huts, called tapyi , on the Itay stream. These residents were called in groups to work in Asunción for a while and then return to their huts. They were paid for in kind and in clothing. In 1761 the place had about 1,000 inhabitants, mainly Guaraníes . In 1795 there were already 2,235 people living there. Immigrants from Europe and the Middle East joined them in the early 20th century. The district remained underdeveloped for a long time. Electricity was not introduced until 1972, cobbled streets from 1975 and running drinking water in 1980. In 1991 the Gran Hospital Nacional Hospital opened.

economy

The city is originally known for the Ñanduti handicrafts and strawberry cultivation, but has recently turned into an industrial zone with 140 medium and large companies, such as the Korean auto parts manufacturer THN, which alone has created 1,300 jobs. There is also a refrigerator, ceramic and thread factory, a large seed processing company and a logistics park.
