Ivan Bogdanov

Ivan Bogdanov ( Serbian - Cyrillic Иван Богданов ; * 1980 in Belgrade ) is a Serbian hooligan and right-wing extremist . Bogdanov became internationally known for having played a key role in canceling two Serbian qualifying matches for the European Football Championship .

Career

Ivan Bogdanov is a member of the right-wing extremist hooligan scene of the Serbian football club Red Star Belgrade . In this environment Bogdanov is a member of the Ultra Boys group and is considered to be extremely violent. Bogdanov, who has a criminal record, is believed to have been involved in rioting against the independence of Kosovo in 2004 and against the arrest of war criminal Radovan Karadžić in 2008. Bogdanov was also involved in the arson attack on the US embassy in Serbia that same year .

Participation in the abandonment of the game in Genoa

On October 12, 2010, before and during the international match between Serbia and Italy as part of the qualification for the European Football Championship 2012 in Genoa , violent riots occurred within the Serbian fan block, in which Bogdanov was involved in the front line. The pictures in which Bogdanov cut the ball stop net with a pair of pliers, smashed the plastic disks of the block partition, threw Bengali torches onto the field and showed the Hitler salute, went around the world and made him a symbol of the riots with 16 injured. In the international press, Bogdanov was given nicknames like "Ivan the Terrible", "The Beast of Genoa" or "The Hooligan Monster" ( picture ). The game was abandoned after seven minutes, Italy was awarded the victory and the Serbian Association had to pay 120,000 euros and play a ghost game.

Bogdanov was arrested the following day and sentenced by an Italian court in March 2011 to three years and three months in prison, of which he ultimately served two years and seven months.

On October 14, 2014, during the qualifying game for the European Football Championship 2016 in Belgrade, in the 42nd minute of the game, violent clashes broke out between players of the Serbian and Albanian national teams as a result of a drone with a flag attached to it flying into the field area , including the Albanian eagle in the outlines of Greater Albania and the two Albanian nationalists Isa Boletini and Ismail Qemali showed. This game was also abandoned after the intimidated Albanian team refused to continue playing.

Arrest in Germany

One day before the Europa League match between 1. FC Köln and FK Roter Stern Belgrade on September 28, 2017, Ivan Bogdanov and seven other men were arrested by the Cologne police as a “preventive measure”. They were released the next day, long before the start of the game, as the judge saw no reason for imprisonment.
