Ivan Zachary Corwin (born May 24, 1984 in Poughkeepsie ) is an American mathematician .

Corwin studied from 2002 at Harvard University with a bachelor's degree magna cum laude in mathematics in 2006 and received his doctorate in 2011 from the Courant Institute of New York University under Gérard Ben Arous (dissertation: The Kardar-Parisi-Zhang Equation and Universality Class ). As a post-doctoral student , he was the first Schramm Memorial Fellow at Microsoft Research and from 2012 to 2014 Moore Instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . In 2013 he became Associate Professor and 2017 Professor at Columbia University . In 2014/15 he was visiting professor at the University of Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie) and Poincaré visiting professor at the Institut Henri Poincaré . He was also a Clay Research Fellow from 2012 to 2016.

He deals with probability theory and statistical physics, integrable quantum systems, stochastic differential equations and random matrices and is particularly useful for work on the Kardar – Parisi – Zhang equation (KPZ equation, after Mehran Kardar, Giorgio Parisi , Yi-Cheng Zhang), a non-linear stochastic partial differential equation originally used to describe the randomly fluctuating interface between two media and their universality classes. The research topic was already an integral part of the awarding of the Fields Medal to Martin Hairer .

In 2014 he became a Packard Fellow and received the Rollo Davidson Prize . In 2014 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Seoul (Macdonald processes, quantum integrable systems and the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class).
