Ivan Steiger (born January 26, 1939 in Prague ) is a Czech-German caricaturist , draftsman and illustrator , author and director and , as a long-time collector, founder of the toy museums in Munich and Prague.

Life

Steiger studied from 1958 at the film school in Prague as a student of the writer Milan Kundera , wrote scripts and short stories and received his doctorate in 1967 as a film and television dramaturge and director. In 1969 he emigrated to Munich. In 1979 he became a German citizen.

From 1961 he began with drawings, which were published for the first time in international newspapers and three years later in the Süddeutsche Zeitung , and from 1972 also in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , where they can be found almost every day in the political section. In November 2011 there were more than 9,000 drawings that had appeared in the FAZ by then.

From the early 1980s he produced numerous documentaries on antique toys and opened a first toy museum in the Old Town Hall in Munich in 1983 , and later a second in Prague.

Steiger also works as a painter. This is how the picture World full of snippets was created in 2010 , a collage using acrylic paints , pencil and sand. Furthermore, the 60 × 80 cm collage Some Good Fragments was created using acrylic and sand.
