Ivan Zaffron

Ivan Zaffron also Zoffran (born June 8, 1807 in Cursola , Croatia , then Austrian Empire , † September 16, 1881 in Dubrovnik ) was a Roman Catholic priest and bishop of Dubrovnik .

Life

Ivan Zaffron was on September 2, 1832 the bishop of Dubrovnik Antonio Giurico for priests ordained.

By imperial decree of November 13, 1862, he was appointed Bishop of Šibenik . This appointment was confirmed by Pope Pius IX. on September 22, 1863. He was consecrated on November 15, 1863 by the Bishop of Split-Makarska , Marco Calogerà . On February 13, 1872, Emperor Franz Joseph I appointed him Bishop of Dubrovnik; this in turn confirmed Pope Pius IX. on July 29, 1872. As Bishop of Dubrovnik he was, according to the apostolic letter of September 12, 1839 from Pope Gregory XVI. also Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Trebinje-Mrkan . He was the council father of the First Vatican Council .

Bishop Ivan Zaffron died at the age of seventy-four in Dubrovnik and was buried there.
