Ivana Sajko (* 1975 in Zagreb , Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian writer , dramaturge and theater director .

Life

Ivana Sajko completed a three-year bachelor's degree in dramaturgy and a master's degree in literature at the Philosophical Faculty in Zagreb at the Academy of Dramatic Arts of the University of Zagreb. She has published numerous stage texts, a theoretical treatise "On the Way to Madness (and Revolution). A Reading" and two prose novels. Ivana Sajko is co-editor of the magazine for performative arts Frakcije and founding member of the theater group BAD co. So far she has received numerous awards for her stage work and theater texts, including four times the Marin Držić Prize, which is important in Croatia.

Ivana Sajko is a signatory of the declaration published in 2017 on the common language of Croats , Serbs , Bosniaks and Montenegrins .

Reception in German-speaking countries

Outside of Croatia, Sajko's theater work is receiving a lot of attention, especially in German-speaking countries. Her pieces are often performed on German-speaking stages, including: "Scenes with Apple" ( City Theater Bern ), "Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose" ( Styrian Autumn , Graz), "Landscape with the Fall" ( Staatstheater Braunschweig ), "Europe" ( Zimmertheater Tübingen ), "That's not us, that's just glass" ( Schauspielhaus Frankfurt ) and "Bombenfrau" (Theaterlabor Darmstadt). Ivana Sajko's prose novel "Rio Bar", published in German in 2008, also impressed the German-language criticism, which Sajko declared to be one of the most important literary voices in Southeast Europe. Their critical attitude is valued as literature of resistance.

In 2009 Ivana Sajko took part in the literary tandem of the Brandenburg Gate Foundation in Berlin. In 2011 she was Writer in Residence at KulturKontakt in Austria and in 2013 City Clerk in Graz .

In 2018, Sajko and the translator Alida Bremer received the International Literature Prize - House of World Cultures for romance novels .
