The Ivinghoe Beacon is a popular spot for hikers, day trippers, paragliders, glider pilots, and model airplane enthusiasts who take advantage of the updraft generated by the wind on the hill .

Ivinghoe Beacon's remoteness and relative proximity to the Elstree film studios made it a preferred film location for many dramas, particularly those produced by the ITC in the 1960s.

height

Contrary to popular belief, the Ivinghoe Beacon does not rise to 150 feet above sea level, but that is the highest point in the nearby Ivinghoe Hills connected to the mountain itself. Beacon Hill, as it is officially named on Ordnance Survey maps, is only 233 m high, 16 m lower than its neighbors. The marker column at the beginning of the Ridgeway is on the top of the hill at 233 m, a few meters away from a trigonometric point at 231 m.

Although the Ivinghoe Beacon appears quite prominent compared to the surrounding ridges, it's not the highest point of the Chilterns because Haddington Hill, a few miles to the west, near Wendover, is slightly higher at 267 m.
