Ivo Feußner (born August 21, 1964 in Braunschweig ) is a German plant biochemist .

Life

From 1974 Ivo Feußner attended the Goethe Gymnasium in Kassel, where he passed the Abitur in 1983. From 1983 on he studied chemistry at the University of Marburg . He finished his studies in 1990 with a diploma thesis at the Institute of Virology with Klaus Radsack. Feußner began his doctoral thesis in 1990 with Helmut Kindl at the chemistry department in Marburg. In February 1993 he was promoted to Dr. rer. nat. PhD . From 1993 to 1994 Feußner worked as a research assistant at Werner Roos in Halle / Saale. Feußner then moved to the Institute of Plant Biochemistry (IPB) in Benno Parthier's department. Here he worked for Claus Wasternack from 1995 to 1996. From 1997 to 1999 he headed a junior research group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). In 2000 Feußner completed his habilitation in biochemistry at the University of Halle . In the same year he moved to the Institute for Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) in Gatersleben in the department of Uwe Sonnewald as head of the lipid metabolism group.

In 2001 Feußner was offered a professorship at the University of Göttingen . There he took over the plant biochemistry department at the Albrecht von Haller Institute in August 2002.

Scientific work

Feußner and his colleagues deal with different aspects of lipid metabolism in plants, mosses, algae and fungi. In particular, the metabolism of waxes , storage lipids, polyene fatty acids and lipid-mediated signal transduction processes are examined. For this purpose, analytical-chemical approaches are combined with biochemical and molecular genetic approaches. The group also deals with the biotechnological use of algae and oilseeds. As part of the infrastructure of the Göttingen Center for Molecular Biosciences (GZMB), the working group operates a metabolomics platform.
