. Ivan Semyonovich Kachanow II ( Russian Иван Семёнович Каханов 2-й ; born July 12, jul. / 24. July  1825 greg. In Kaluga ; † February 25 jul. / 10. March  1909 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian Politician and General of the Russian Army .

Kakhanov came from a noble family from the Central Russian governorate of Tambov . He was born as the third child of the chief quartermaster and later civil governor of Georgia , Semjon Wassiljewitsch Kachanow (1787-1854) and his second wife Jelisaveta (née von Karsten).

After his military training at the Michael Artillery Academy in Saint Petersburg, he first served in the 1st Guards Artillery Brigade, was promoted to battery chief in 1858 and worked at the academy as a trainer at the same time. After being transferred to Warsaw in 1864 as commander of the 3rd Guards Artillery Brigade, the governor in Poland, Friedrich Wilhelm Rembert von Berg, ensured his appointment as governor of the newly founded Petrokow governorate in 1867 , which in the same year came from parts of the Kalisch governorate . Kelzy and Warsaw had been formed. With effect from September 6, 1884, Kakhanov was promoted to Governor General of Vilna and in this function operated an extremely conservative Russification policy . In particular, he tried to make it difficult for Polish citizens and foreigners to acquire land in his area of ​​responsibility or to ban it altogether. After his recall from the post of Governor General, Kakhanov was a member of the State Council of the Russian Empire from January 1, 1893 until his death . He found his final resting place in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Saint Petersburg .

Kakhanov was a bearer of various orders and awards, including the Order of Alexander Nevsky , the Order of the White Eagle and the Order of St. Vladimir 1st Class.
