János Juszkó 1960

János Juszkó (born June 9, 1939 in Szeged , Hungary ; † May 2, 2018 ) was a Hungarian cyclist .

Athletic career

The trained tool fitter Juszkó ran road cycling as a state amateur at the Budapest sports club BVSV. When he was just under 20, he became known beyond the borders of Hungary through his participation in the three-country stage trip, the International Peace Tour . In 1959, when he made his peace voyage debut, it was 61st, and was then used on seven more peace voyages until 1969. At these events he was three times the best Hungarian driver, in 1964 he had his best place with eighth place and in 1966 he achieved his only peace ride stage victory.

In 1963 and 1964 Juszkó was part of the Hungarian squad for the road world championships , where he finished eighth with the team of four in 1963 and tenth in 1964. At the cycling competitions of the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 , he finished 24th in the individual race and finished twelfth among 32 teams with the Hungarian four-man in the 100 km team event .

Juszkó only achieved notable successes in his home country relatively late. He was named Road Cyclist of the Year in 1964 and 1965, but it wasn't until 1965 that he won his first national title at the Hungarian Cyclo-Cross Championships . He won the championship title in the single road discipline only in 1968.

Professional

In 1973 Juszkó ended his career as a cyclist, became a sports teacher and was involved in promoting young athletes in cycling.
