János Sugár

János Sugár (* 1958 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian conceptual artist , sculptor and filmmaker .

life and work

János Sugár studied sculpture at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. During his studies between 1980 and 1986, Sugár was a member of the interdisciplinary Indigo Group (INDIGO = Inter-Disciplinary-Thinking in Hungarian), which was founded in 1978 by Miklós Erdély . This group of artists included András Böröcz, Ildikó Enyedi , László Révész and János Szirtes. János Sugár works in the fields of sculpture, installation , performance , film and video art . Between 1990 and 1995 Sugár was one of the directors of the Balázs Béla Stúdiós in Budapest. In 1994, 95 and 96 Sugár organized the MetaForum Conference Series with Geert Lovink and Diana McCarty . The Anthology Film Archives in New York City has been showing his films since 1998 . In 1990 János Sugár was appointed professor at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts , where he was a founding member of the Intermedia Department .

The 2001 film The Typewriter of the Illiterate is about the Kalashnikov machine gun . Do you know my method from 2002 and Monument of No Erase from 2006 are other well-known short films by János Sugár.
