Jérémie Zimmermann

Jérémie Zimmermann (* 1978 in Paris ) is a French computer scientist and internet activist. He is committed to free software, civil rights on the Internet and sustainable well-being of political activists.

Life

From 2004 to 2014 Zimmermann was a board member of the April Association (Association pour la Promotion et la Recherche en Informatique Libre) for the promotion of Free Software in the francophone area, which works closely with the Free Software Foundation .

In 2008 he was one of the co-founders and until 2014 spokesman for the NGO La Quadrature du Net , which campaigns for civil rights on the Internet.

In 2014, together with Emily King, he founded Hacking With Care , an interdisciplinary collective of hacker activists, therapists , masseurs , artists and sociologists .

Jérémie is a member of the five-person ethics committee (Comité de déontologie) of the French association Nos oignons , founded in 2013 , which is primarily committed to the operation of the Internet infrastructure for the anonymizing gateway (network) .

Zimmermann has lived in Berlin since 2016.

In 2012 he was on Julian Assange's TV talk show The World Tomorrow together with Jacob Appelbaum and Andy Müller-Maguhn on the subject of cypherpunks .

Awards

In 2012 he was honored by the Electronic Frontier Foundation with the EFF Pioneer Award for his contribution to the fight against the trade agreement ACTA , which was rejected by the European Parliament after massive protests .
