Jérôme Champagne (born June 15, 1958 in Paris ) is a French professional diplomat (1983–1998) and a former Deputy Secretary General of FIFA from 1999 to 2010. Jérôme Champagne caused a worldwide sensation with a 25-page paper that he published in early 2012 in Order published by FIFA President Sepp Blatter to initiate a structural debate.

biography

Jérôme Champagne grew up in the 14th arrondissement of Paris . His father was a sports and ski instructor and ran a sailing school in Catalonia .

Career

Jérôme Champagne graduated from the Institute of Political Science in Paris and the Institute of Oriental Languages in 1981, after graduating . During his political studies he worked for the trade journal France Football . Thereafter, Jérôme Champagne was a diplomat in the French service for 14 years, in Oman , Cuba , Los Angeles and Brasília . He was Deputy Consul General in Los Angeles during the preparations for the 1994 World Cup in the USA, where he got to know the Organizing Committee for the 1998 World Cup in France and then became Chief of Protocol of the Organizing Committee for the 1998 World Cup in France in 1997 . During his tenure at FIFA, Champagne was Director of International Relations and Political Advisor to Sepp Blatter . After eleven years in the service of FIFA, he was dismissed by Blatter on January 15, 2010 from the inner circle of the world football association, on the grounds that he wanted to inherit him as FIFA President.

He later worked as a consultant for the national football associations of Palestine , Kosovo and Cyprus . He is currently an advisor and makes specialist public posts on the future of football and FIFA.

Candidate for FIFA President

On January 20, 2014, Jérôme Champagne announced his candidacy for the presidency of the world football association FIFA in Zurich in June 2015 at a press conference in London , but had to withdraw it at the end of January 2015 despite the support of Pelé , as she was only supported by three instead of the necessary five national associations was supported.

Private

Champagne is married to an American. The family lives in the canton of Zurich , Switzerland .
