Jérôme Minière (born March 27, 1972 in Orléans , France ) is a French singer and instrumental musician who now lives in Montreal , Canada . He is also active as a writer and director of short films and as a visual artist. He is considered one of the early protagonists of the Nouvelle scène française ( Nouvelle chanson ).

biography

Jérôme Minière grew up in Orléans. He studied at a film school in Brussels and was motivated by Dominique A to send his first demo recordings to the Lithium record company . His first album Monde pour n'importe qui was released by Lithium in 1996, it is characterized by a mixture of electronic music, pop and spoken and sung lyrics. It received good reviews, particularly from Les Inrockuptibles magazine .

He then moved to Quebec , where he recorded the double album La nuit éclaire le jour qui suit with a rougher 1st page and a quieter, purely instrumental 2nd page. He created a fictional character and alter ego “Herri-Kopter”, who appears regularly on his albums, such as on Chez Herri Kopter . Les Inrockuptibles described his 2010 album Le Vrai et le Faux as “strange French chanson” (French: étrange chanson française) . The album Une île was released in 2015.

Jérôme Minière has already worked with several representatives of the Nouvelle scene francaise, such as Katerine , Albin de la Simone and Dominique A. He wrote some of the songs on her album Vingt à trente mille jours for the singer Françoiz Breut , and they brought one in 2013 Split single out with a cover version of the other artist on each side. Various guest singers can be heard on the album Chez Herri Kopter , including the singer Lhasa de Sela , who was also living in Montreal at the time.

In Germany he is mainly known for the Le Pop compilations of the Cologne label of the same name, on which performers of the Nouvelle scène française have been presented since 2001. The label also released some of his albums and organized concerts with him in Germany.

He has won a Prix ​​Félix several times , the most important music award ceremony for all musicians from Québec.
