Jóhannes R. Jóhannesson (born December 25, 1974 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic snooker player .

Career

Jóhannes R. Jóhannesson started playing snooker at the age of 14 . At the U21 World Cup in 1993 , he reached the quarter-finals, where he was defeated by the eventual finalist Indika Dodangoda only 4: 5. In the same year he retired in his first participation in the men's amateur world championship in the preliminary round. In 1994 he made it to the semi-finals of the European Championship , where he lost 7-2 to Stefan van der Borght . At the amateur World Cup in 1994 , after victories against Paul Dowling , Quinten Hann and Somporn Kanthawung, he was the only Icelander to make it into the final, in which he was defeated by the Pakistani Mohammed Yousuf 9:11. In 1994 he also became Icelandic U21 champions with a 6-5 final win over Kristján Helgason . From the 1995/96 season , Jóhannes played two seasons on the Main Tour . He achieved his best world ranking at the end of the 1995/96 season with 487th place. At the EM 2001 he reached the quarter-finals. From 2000 to 2002 he reached the finals of the Icelandic championship three times in a row . After losing to Jóhannes B. Jóhannesson in 2000 and to Kristján Helgason in 2001, he defeated Jóhannes B. Jóhannesson 9: 7 in 2002 and won his first national championship title with the men.
