Iraklis Saloniki

Apostolos Vellios made his debut on April 26, 2009 at the age of seventeen for his hometown club Iraklis Saloniki in a 4-1 away win over Skoda Xanthi in the Super League 2008/09 . In the following two seasons, the young striker established himself as a supplementary player and made nine and twelve league appearances with two goals each season. The 2010/11 season ended for his club with the license withdrawal and, as a result, relegation from the Greek first division.

Everton FC

The 19-year-old Vellios, who was able to draw attention to himself in addition to his appearances in the Super League also in the Greek U-19 national team , switched to the English first division club Everton before the end of the season on January 31, 2011 and signed a contract valid until 2014 . He made his debut in the 2010/11 Premier League on April 2, 2011 in a 2-2 home game against Aston Villa . After two more league appearances until the end of the season, he played thirteen league games in the 2011/12 Premier League and scored three goals. His first goal for Everton was on September 17, 2011 in a 3-1 win over Wigan Athletic . In the following season he was used by coach David Moyes only in six league games. After he remained under the new coach Roberto Martínez in 2013/14 without consideration, he moved on March 27, 2014 until the end of the season on loan to the second division club Blackpool and played two games in the Football League Championship 2013/14 .

Further stops and return to Iraklis

In July 2014, the free transfer Apostolos Vellios signed a contract with the Belgian first division club Lierse SK . After only one goal in thirteen Pro League games in 2014/15 , the Danish first division club FC Vestsjælland signed him on January 26, 2015 on loan until the end of the season. In addition to three goals in the Danish Superliga 2014/15 , he also scored three goals in the Danish cup competition . With the first division relegated, he moved into the cup final, but lost it after the interim 1-0 lead by Vellios with 2: 3 after extra time against FC Copenhagen .

Since Lierse was also relegated from the first division, Vellios returned to Iraklis Saloniki on July 15, 2015 . In the Super League 2015/16 he scored eleven goals this season for the newly promoted team, the best value in his playing career to date.

Nottingham Forest

On June 29, 2016, the English second division Nottingham Forest announced the commitment of the 24-year-old attacker.

National team

Apostolos Vellios, already regularly used in the junior division, made his debut on March 29, 2016 for the Greek national football team in a 3-2 home defeat against the Icelandic national football team .
