Indika Dodangoda ( Sinhala ඉන්දික දොඩන්ගොඩ ; born October 12, 1972 ) is a Sri Lankan snooker player .

Career

In 1990 Indika Dodangoda was Sri Lankan men's champion and, after a final defeat against Susantha Boteju , junior vice champion. In the same year he retired in his first participation in the men's amateur world championship in the preliminary round. In January 1991 he reached the round of 128 at the World Masters. In 1992 he made it to the semi-finals of the Asian Cup . After losing 3: 6 against eventual Asian champions Rome Surin , he defeated Thongchai Punyawee 4: 0 in the game for third place. At the U21 World Cup in 1992 , he was eliminated in the semifinals against the eventual tournament winner Robin Hull . A year later he moved into the final and was defeated there by the Icelander Kristján Helgason with 7:11. In 1994 he made it to the final round for the first time at the Amateur World Cup . In the second round, however, he lost 4-0 to Tommy Ang . At the Asian Cup of the same year he reached the quarter-finals.

In the 1995/96 season Indika Dodangoda first took part in the Main Tour . His best results were reaching the fourth qualifying round at the Thailand Classic and the fifth qualifying round at the Grand Prix . At the 1996 World Cup , he reached the third qualifying round, in which he was defeated by Scott Rigg from England 4: 5. In the 1996/97 season he reached the round of 128 at the German Open and lost there 2: 5 against James Reynolds from Welsh . At the 1997 World Cup , he was eliminated in the second qualifying round. At the end of the season he finished 259th in the world rankings . At the World Championships in 1998 and 1999 , he was also eliminated in the second qualifying round. At the end of the 1998/99 season he reached 228th place, his best world ranking so far, but still lost his professional position. In the following seasons he tried to return to the Main Tour via the Challenge Tour , but did not get past the round of 16 and thus missed the qualification.
