Józef August Ostrowski (born January 21, 1850 in Maluszyn near Radomsko (then Congress Poland ); † June 20, 1923 there ) was a Polish aristocrat , large landowner and politician .

He first studied at the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw , then at the University of Berlin . This was followed by a degree in agricultural science in Halle (Saale) and Hohenheim . For a long time he worked for the Landkreditgesellschaft ( Towarzystwo Kredytowe Ziemskie ). In 1905 he founded the Party for Realpolitik ( Stronnictwo Polityki Realnej ). During the First World War he changed his political concept and supported the Central Powers . From October 27, 1917 to November 14, 1918 he was one of three members of the Regency Council . In his apartment, on November 11, 1918, the Germans handed over military power, and three days later also political power to Józef Piłsudski .
