Józef Peszka
Józef Peszka (born February 19, 1767 in Cracow ; † September 4, 1831 there ) was a Polish painter.
Life
Peszka began his art training in Cracow with Dominik Oesterreicher (1750-1809) and continued this from 1786 in Warsaw with Franciszek Smuglewicz . Thanks to Hugo Kołłątaj , he became known in patriotic circles around the four-year-old Sejm , which gave him the opportunity to paint eleven portraits of important figures in the Sejm. In 1813 he returned to Krakow, where he helped organize the Academy of Fine Arts and became a professor there in 1817. At first Peszka was a portrait painter, later his pictures also depicted historical and religious subjects as well as landscapes.
