Jörg Franke (Manager)

Jörg Franke (born January 7, 1941 in Halle (Saale) ) was the first managing director of the first fully electronic nationwide stock exchange in Germany , the Deutsche Terminbörse . In mid-1988 Franke received the order to set up a new, fully electronic futures exchange, which then began its activity on January 26, 1990 .

Before that, the doctor of law was managing director of the Berlin stock exchange and member of the board of the Berliner Kassenverein AG - securities collection bank , Berlin.

In 1993, after the merger of DTB Deutsche Terminbörse GmbH and Deutsche Börse AG , Franke moved up to the board of directors of Deutsche Börse AG. There he accompanied the merger between DTB and the Swiss stock exchange Soffex (Swiss Options and Financial Futures Exchange) to form Eurex , one of the futures exchanges for financial derivatives with the highest turnover worldwide today . Franke was Chairman of the Management Board of Eurex Zürich AG ( 1997 to 2000 ) and Chairman of the Management Board of Eurex Frankfurt AG, Eurex Clearing AG, Frankfurt am Main ( 1998 to 2000 )

In 2001 he switched to the Berliner Effektengesellschaft AG, Berlin a. Frankfurt am Main. Today he is chairman of the supervisory board there. In 2007 he was also elected chairman of the board of the Federal Association of Securities Firms at German Stock Exchanges (bwf), now the Federal Association of Securities Firms. In 2019, after leaving the board of the bwf, he was elected honorary chairman.

Since 1999 he has had a teaching position at the economics faculty of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) (formerly Universität Karlsruhe (TH)) and from 2005 to 2018 honorary professor at KIT.
