Jörg Gühring

Jörg Gühring (born January 20, 1935 in Ebingen ; † January 26, 2021 at Tegernsee ) was a German entrepreneur . He is considered to be responsible for the rise of the family company Gühring to a global player .

Life

Gühring completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter at the Weingarten machine factory before studying business administration in Munich . In 1964 he joined the family business founded by his grandfather in 1898. He was commercial director until the 1980s , then after the retirement of his brother and his cousin the sole owner of the company, which has now grown to more than 7,000 employees. In the obituary of the Schwäbische Zeitung it says about his time in the management: "Jörg Gühring has built the company of the same name from a niche provider to an international market leader in around six decades". Despite Parkinson's disease from 2009 and most recently severe restrictions after a fractured vertebra, he remained active in the family company until the end.

Awards

In 2006, Gühring was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin for holding on to the production location in Berlin despite the discontinuation of funding after reunification . He was also the recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit , which he received for his “entrepreneurial and social commitment”.

family

Gühring's son Oliver joined the company in 2000 and took over the management of sales and marketing. Gühring was married for the third time to the TV doctor Antje-Katrin Kühnemann , which increasingly brought him the attention of the tabloid press; he lived with her at the Tegernsee . His son and two daughters are from the first two marriages.
