Jörg Heiligmann

Jörg Heiligmann (* 1952 ) is a German archaeologist and monument conservator .

Life

Jörg Heiligmann studied Provincial Roman Archeology , Prehistory and Early History , Ancient History and Classical Archeology at the University of Tübingen and the University of Munich . After completing his doctorate, he took over the management of urban archeology in Augsburg in 1979 . From 1981 to 1986 he worked at the Tübingen branch of the Baden-Württemberg State Monuments Office as an area officer for archaeological monument preservation, then he was academic advisor at the Institute for Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Tübingen. Since 1993 he has been the deputy director of the Archaeological State Museum Baden-Württemberg in the Konstanz branch . On November 1st, 2010 he was appointed director of the Archaeological State Museum Baden-Württemberg in Konstanz. Heiligmann retired on September 1, 2018 and was honored with a commemorative publication.

Heiligmann's publication Der Alblimes from 1990 is the only coherent scientific representation of this Limes section and an important standard work of provincial Roman archeology.

Heiligmann is a member of the German Archaeological Institute and was President of the Association for the History of Lake Constance and its Surroundings from 1999 to 2007 and again from 2015 to 2019 .
