Hans Wislicenus
Hans Wislicenus (born December 3, 1864 in Weimar ; † December 13, 1939 in Berlin ) was a German portrait , history and genre painter .
Life
Hans Wislicenus was the third of four children of the history painter Hermann Wislicenus . The admiralty council and naval writer Georg Wislicenus (1858–1927) and the painter Max Wislicenus (1861–1957) were his brothers. In 1896 he married his cousin Lilli Wislicenus-Finzelberg , with whom he had already spent a large part of his childhood and youth, as she grew up in Hermann Wislicenus' household until she was 15. In 1898 they had their son Hans Hermann Wislicenus, who later adopted the artist name Jean Visly as a painter .
From 1882 to 1889, Hans Wislicenus studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . He then continued his studies in Paris, including with Eugène Carrière . Hans Wislicenus exhibited for the first time at the International Art Exhibition in Berlin in 1891. There he showed his work Reise-Intermezzo 200 years ago . In the following years he also exhibited regularly at the annual major Berlin art exhibitions . In later years, Hans Wislicenus specialized in portraits . In the first third of the 20th century, he portrayed numerous personalities from upper class Berlin society.
Hans Wislicenus is buried at the Wilmersdorf cemetery at the side of his father and his wife. The grave is adorned with the grave sculpture of a mourning woman, which his wife Lilli Wislicenus-Finzelberg created in 1910.
