Jörg Merkel
Jörg Merkel (born June 24, 1968 ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
The midfielder Joerg Merkel belonged in the 1988/89 season the squad of just out of the Bundesliga relegated second division club FC Homburg . He came only to a use as a professional when coach Slobodan Čendić replaced him on May 1, 1989 in the 32nd season game of the Saarlanders at SC Freiburg six minutes before the final whistle for Lars Ellmerich . Nothing changed at the score, the Freiburg team with Joachim Löw in their ranks prevailed 1-0. It was the last game for coach Čendić: He was replaced by managing director Gerd Schwickert , who made the return to the top class perfectly with the team.
Merkel was no longer part of the squad there. He switched to the amateur camp and then played in the Oberliga Südwest for Eintracht Trier and FSV Saarwellingen . In the 1990/91 and 1991/92 seasons he played with Trier in the DFB Cup and played in the two defeats against Bundesliga clubs VfB Stuttgart (0: 1) and Bayer 04 Leverkusen (0: 2), through which his team left the competition early.
