Jörg Rössel

Jörg Rössel (born March 11, 1968 in Opladen ) is a German sociologist and university professor .

Life

From 1989 to 1994 Rössel studied sociology with minor subjects economics , statistics and psychology as well as history with minor subjects North American studies and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin . In 1994 he moved to the Institute for Cultural Studies at the University of Leipzig as a research assistant . There he was in 1999 with the dissertation Social Mobilization and Democracy: the Prussian suffrage conflicts from 1900 to 1918 to the Dr. phil. PhD. He then stayed until 2005 as a research assistant at the University of Leipzig. From 2003 to 2004 he was a John F. Kennedy Fellow at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University , then until 2005 visiting professor at the International University Bremen . In 2005 he completed his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin with the thesis Plurale Sozialstrukturanalyse: an action-theoretical reconstruction of the basic concepts of social structure analysis .

From 2005 to 2006 he initially represented the Chair of General Sociology at the Political Science Faculty of the University of Erfurt , to which he was then properly appointed in 2006 . In 2007 he accepted a position at the Research Institute for Sociology at the University of Cologne .

Rössel has held a professorship for sociology at the Sociological Institute of the University of Zurich since 2008 , and has also been Director of the Sociological Institute of the University of Zurich since 2013. He is also co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Soziologie .

Research priorities

Rössel's interests lie in social structure analysis , sociological theories , political sociology , cultural sociology and historical-comparative sociology.
