Jörg R. Mühlbacher
Jörg R. Mühlbacher (born March 31, 1946 in Linz , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian computer scientist. He is professor for system programming at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz . He headed the Institute for Information Processing and Microprocessor Technology (FIM). Mühlbacher has retired since October 2012.
Life
After receiving his doctorate in mathematics at the University of Vienna in 1969 , Jörg Mühlbacher completed a postgraduate stay in Harwell, England . In 1973 he completed his habilitation in applied computer science , and in 1976 he was a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bristol (UK). Before he went to the JKU as a full professor for systems programming in 1976, he was (C3-) professor at the University of Dortmund (1973–1976). He has already held visiting professorships abroad several times (UK (Liverpool, Reading), Spain (Granada), Switzerland (Zurich, St. Gallen)) and was offered a professorship at the University of Zurich in 1982 , but decided to stay at the JKU.
From 2001 to 2007 he was a member of the Austrian Technical College Council . From 2009 to 2013 he was chairman of the Austrian Society for Informatics (ÖGI). He is a member of the OOE Research and Technology Council (OOE-RFT) and a Senior Member of the ACM.
Mühlbacher's work and research focus is on operating systems , computer networks and security, e-learning and algorithmic graph theory.
Since 1965 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KÖStV Nibelungia Vienna in the ÖCV .
